Between Anti-Fascist Society, Socialist Utopia and Lived Jewishness: What did it mean to be Jewish in the GDR? After the Shoah, many Jews made a conscious decision to live in the new German socialist state, driven by the desire to create a different, better country. They hoped for greater justice and to break down antisemitic structures.
