Architecture is a formative factor in culture. In Western culture, the rules of decorum, a unity of form and meaning, have shaped the building industry for thousands of years. Evolutionary theory suggests that these artificial, cultural habitats, their rules of organization and design, have had and continue to have an influence – good and bad – on the development of the people who inhabit them. The author undertakes a cultural-anthropological exploration based on neuroscientific perception experiments in order to describe this phenomenon.
