A type changer is a person who uses empathy to create positive change. Long ago, unseen beings placed a curse of division on humanity because of ancestors making a pact with an evil sea creature. Now the worth of a person's life is determined by the texture of their natural hair. Kink people with 4C hair like female protagonist Oluwa, are marginalized from civic life, left to endure health disparities and social injustice while living in East St. Louis. After a tragic event, Oluwa soon discovers she has the cure for texturism, as she is chosen to break humanity's curse. But first she must undergo a life altering process which will change her appearance putting her life and the ones she loves at risk.
