Walter Rodney (1942-1980) was an intellectual, an activist, and a revolutionary who fought for a better future in many different contexts, but always for those who - due to colonialism, imperialism, and underdevelopment - had been oppressed for centuries. Rodney represented Pan Africanism, Black Power, and revolutionary thought at a time, when the existent order was challenged on a global scale. Through his scientific works and his activities as a »guerilla intellectual« Rodney challenged those in power and offered alternatives that especially poor and suppressed people could believe in.
