The art museum in Marktoberdorf is renowned as a place for contemporary art and education beyond the Bavarian Allgäu region. Due to the clarity and minimalism of the design, the architecture is also exceptional. The ensemble of buildings consists of two connected structures: the Dr. Geiger House, a middle-class residential building from the 1920s, and the new build, the Franz Schmid House, which was completed in 2001. The newer building consists of two clearly cut cubes placed in a slightly offset alignment.
